Sensitive skin is harder to shop for compared to other skin types when looking to buy skincare/beauty products.

Sensitive skin unlike other skin types is prone to adverse reactions. People with sensitive skin may have strong reactions to products people with other skin types will get away with!

Before shopping for products, it’s best to first know your skin type and the ingredients that are best suited for it so you are guided in picking up the right product for your skin type i.e if you have oily skin you should look out for water-based etc.

Shopping for skincare/beauty products should be done bearing in mind expert advice and useful handy tips. There are sensitive, oily, dry or combination skin types and different products work best for each.

Certain products may not work on a certain skin type because they are not meant for that skin type (and this is not because the products don’t work) and in some cases using the wrong products might end up giving the skin horrible reactions or further damage.

If you have sensitive skin these ingredients are best avoided in products.

1. Fragrance

Heavily perfumed or fragranced products tend to dry out and irritate the skin. It’s best to go for products without fragrance. Organic or natural products are the best in this case.

As much as possible, stay away from heavily perfumed skin care products as most of them contain some form of drying agent.

2. Alcohol

Alcohol is a major ingredient in skin care products and while the littlest percentage might work for oily skin, it’s best to avoid using it topically. Look out instead for products without alcohol or ones with extremely low percentages.

3. Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is a common ingredient in products to treat acne and while it works well to keep skin soft and smooth, it’s not the best for sensitive (or even dry) skin. Also, it’s best used under strict expert supervision.
