Nigerian-based fashion brand, Rekana, marked a significant milestone with its runway debut at New York Fashion Week in September 2023, following the successful launch of its Rainy Resort 2022 collection and the release of the short film, “Children of God.”

Comprising nineteen unique pieces, the collection weaves individual narratives into a cohesive whole, showcasing Rekana’s commitment to sustainability by utilizing eco-friendly hand-dyed fabrics created with low-impact materials.

Sharon Ojong, the founder of Rekana, expressed her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to debut this special collection at Jersey City Day of Fashion event. She said, “I am beyond excited and honored to have had this incredible opportunity to showcase this collection, tell our story, and make my runway debut. I’m so grateful to Udochi Nwogu of Building African Fashion for inviting me to be a part of something so special. This collection means everything to me. I was inspired by love, passion, and inclusion. We wanted to create a collection inspired by real people with real stories, and real clothing made with eco-friendly fabrics using low-impact materials for our tie-dye process. And I’m proud we were able to achieve that, both with the collection and the film.”

Since its inception in March 2018, Rekana has consistently advocated for sustainability and individuality with each new collection. The brand’s designs have graced some of Africa’s most prominent celebrities, including writer Chimamanda Adichie, BBNaija Star Nengi, talented musicians Omawunmi and Simi, superstar actresses Kate Henshaw, Chioma Akpotha, Idia Aisien, and the ever-stunning WAJE.

As we continue our journey to promote sustainability, innovation, and meaningful storytelling through fashion, we invite you to stay connected with REKANA. Together, we can inspire positive change within the industry and beyond.
