Looking to get away? Clear Essence California Spa & Wellness Resort it is

Clear Essence California Spa & Wellness Resort

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Lagos, but without the (bustle and noise), I have the perfect getaway for you! It’s the Clear Essence California Spa & Wellness Resort, which is “quietly” tucked away in Ikoyi.

This spa is unusually located on Alexander Road, which you might think means a busy location, car honks, and maybe not the best place to unwind, but you’d be wrong. It’s perfect.

Driving into Clear Essence California Spa & Wellness Resort, you almost immediately feel a sense of calm (and I’m not kidding, or maybe it’s because I was looking forward to this getaway!)

You are welcomed along a lush pathway that casually makes you know you’re in for a well-deserved getaway.

I arrived at the reception desk and I confirmed my reservation (it is important to have a reservation). I had booked The Romance Getaway (I think that’s what is called) with the hubby, which included:

  • One night accommodation
  • Welcome cocktail or juice upon arrival
  • Bottle of champagne or non-alcoholic cider in the room
  • A 60-minute body treatment
  • A 60-minute classic signature manicure or pedicure
  • Dinner for two on the night of arrival
  • Breakfast for two morning of departure

It was 160k at the time. It sounded like the kind of treat I was looking for (and it was). After checking us into the lavish room (I remember the rooms were named after vacation islands or something, and I recall ours being particularly opulent, though I can’t recall precisely the name now!)

As it was my birthday, it was thoughtfully decorated with rose petals and balloons- I had let it slip casually after it appeared that my last-minute reservation might not go through- (the thoughtfulness was unbelievable! This got me good).

We were served cocktails (meant to be served upon arrival, but we had them delivered to the room because we had gone out for brunch at Pause Cafe and an early lunch at The Foundry at Casa Lydia before checking in. After all, it was my birthday), and we arrived just in time for our massage and pedicure (we decided to go with a Swedish massage and pedicure).

The atmosphere was serene and calming. We had a relaxing massage; the masseuse asked how intense we wanted it, but we chose something gentle. I may have caught the hubby snoring after the first few minutes, it was that relaxing.

After our pedicure and tea, it was time for our special birthday dinner (it was indeed special, with lights, champagne and all). We were so relaxed that we just changed clothes and went downstairs.

Dinner was a three-course affair with tasty appetisers and desserts. I can still “remember” the flavour of the seafood broth/pepper soup (a first for me; I’d never had that before), and it was delicious. Every single course was delicious!

We slept in because it was such a peaceful night! You should keep an eye on this because it’s easy to lose track of time when the drapes are closed. Thankfully, we arrived just in time for a buffet breakfast. That was also good.

After that, we went for a walk in the garden with the water fountain and lush greenery, took some photos, walked around casually, and prepared to leave. It was a real treat.

Clear Essence California Spa & Wellness Resort is a lovely and peaceful destination. I was particularly impressed by their outstanding customer service.

Though they need to work on maintaining certain areas in the lounge upstairs, some parts of the wall smell damp, and while I completely understand that water and dampness can frequently occur in Lagos on the island, they need to find a way to work around this smell.

Apart from that, I honestly cannot find fault with this resort. It was the ideal getaway; I didn’t want to leave! I honestly didn’t. I need to go back soon; I think I’m overdue for another vacation.

Have you ever been there? What was your experience? If you haven’t already, this is the push you need to plan a vacation; you’ll love it. I’m betting on it!
