GTB Fashion Weekend Day 2: My recap of everything you missed!

GTB Fashion Weekend Day 2

My recap of GTB Fashion Weekend Day 2 is here!

The last day of GTB Fashion Weekend was lit, it gave everything it needed to give. The organizers outdid themselves. Don’t worry if you missed it, just keep reading. I will give you a rundown of everything that happened.

Entrepreneurs of fashion, style, and everything in between came around for the exhibition, and they gave customers amazing discounts. If you had attended that show without a strict budget, I promise you would have quickly run out of money. Everything was available: turbans, jewelry, make-up, different kinds of dresses, wedding gowns, and everyone’s favourite footwear – crocs. You could literally shop till you drop, and I am sure some people did.

Now, let us talk about the free masterclass that was organized. Experienced leaders and entrepreneurs from every aspect of the fashion and style industry were invited to speak, share their knowledge, tell their stories, and give advice to young entrepreneurs looking up to them as inspiration.

The class started at noon with fashion photographer, Quil Lemons taking the lead as the first speaker. He spoke about fashion through a lens and he gave us a breakdown of his entire creative process from generating ideas around a particular shoot to what he does post-production.

After Quil Lemons’ class, there was a short break before Marielle Bobo who is currently the editor-in-chief and the senior vice president of programming of Ebony Magazine took the stage for the first time in Nigeria.

She spoke about the changing landscape of editorial imagery, she also let us in on her journey and her humble beginnings as a fashion assistant to how she got to where she is now. She spoke at length about Ebony’s growth, their partnership with Google, and the Black Panther cover shoot. Her session was particularly educative as she spoke about the importance of growth and choosing between evolving or dissolving.

Alice Temperley a world-renowned fashion designer was also invited to speak, she gave us honest and entertaining insights into the world of fashion, she went into the details of her entire career journey and a little peek into her personal life as well.

The other speakers who took the stage were Ade Hassan who is a fashion designer, businesswoman, and the founder of Nubian Skin, which is a global lingerie and hosiery brand for women with darker skin tones.

Amanda Cosco, who is a fashion and beauty innovation journalist, a digital fashion expert, and the founder of the electric runway, took the stage to talk about the future of fashion and what to expect in the next two years in the digital space. The masterclass ended with Antoine Gregory, who is a fashion editor, creative consultant, and the founder of the Black Fashion Fair.

After the masterclass, the fashion show began at 6 p.m. and ended by 10 p.m., and like every other program at the GTB Fashion Weekend 2022, it did not disappoint in the least.

Fashion designers got really creative this season. I also saw a lot of beautiful and unique outfits on the models that graced the runway. It was a complete success, and it was very evident that everyone involved put a lot of work into making it come alive.

The after-party was so much fun with people dancing, eating, drinking, and just having the time of their lives. At the end of the night, the sky was lit with beautiful fireworks that got everyone screaming in excitement.

It was a fun-filled day and I cannot wait for what GTB has in store next year. Make sure you don’t miss it!
