Oily Skin? 3 Things you do to make it worse

Oily skin can be an annoying skin type tbh. It is prone to acne and blemishes because it produces more sebum that ends up blocking the pores if not carefully treated.

With Oily skin, deep cleansing is important. The pores have to be clean without traces of oil/sebum trapped in them.

There are things ‘to do’ and ‘not to do’ to make sure the skin is kept healthy without losing its glow and texture –because a birdie told us oily skin gets better with age

If you have this skin type, these are things you should avoid:

Overwashing your face

People with oily skin tend to constantly wash their faces to get rid of oil and this becomes counterproductive because the skin ‘feels’ it’s being attacked and makes up by producing even more oil!

When you wash your face excessively, you strip your skin of essential oils instead, get a facial wash targeted at oily skin and wash twice a day (in the morning and at night).

Products overload in your skincare routine

A lot of people tend to self-medicate when it comes to skincare. It doesn’t matter if you use 10 products; if they’re not targeted at your skin type, they could end up doing even more damage to the skin.

Go for products for oily skin. (and they don’t have to be a lot) Then create a routine that works for you.

Using comedogenic products

As much as possible, stay away from heavy cream/cream-based formulas, fragrances, etc. that irritate the skin. Instead, opt for non-comedogenic (won’t block pores) ones. They are usually light formulas and water-based.

If you have this skin type use more serums instead of heavy creams and lotions.
