Tiwa Savage released the video for ‘Koroba’, one of the singles from her upcoming album, Celia last week. In the video, we witnessed one of her best fashion moments yet as she pulled out outfits from designers like Deola Sagoe and Bridget Awosika.

As one of the women leading the Afrobeats genre worldwide, Tiwa Savage has sort of established herself as a style icon in these streets. When she’s not decked in the latest global fashion trends, you’ll find her looking gorge in luxury African/Nigerian brands

The video for ‘Koroba’ is no different for Tiwa – as she sings about wanting the finer things in life. With the lyrics, “I no come this life to suffer” and “who no like better thing”, she reaffirms the notion that life is indeed for the living. This, of course, translates to the top fashion moments styled by Daniel Obasi, in the colourful video, as she rocks a defiant gele atop the famous Deola Sagoe komole piece.

From the Banke Kuku pieces to the detailed corset dress by Tokyo James, it’s hard to pick one favourite style moment from the video. While it’s great to note that the cast in parts of the video wore the Koroba hairstyle, from which the song was named, it’s the fashion that steals the show. And this is why we’re detailing each stand-out piece from the video in the order of appearance:

1. Turfah

Smack dab into the video, Tiwa shines in a Turfah piece, as she stars as a shady newscaster. Nigerian newscasters are popular for their stand-out traditional attires, complete with matching headgear. Paying homage to these stylish women, she opens the video with the silk off-shoulder Ren-Ren blouse with signature ruffles and wrapper from Turfah.

2. Bridget Awosika

She switched it up for this ‘money-green’ mini blazer dress, from Bridget Awosika’s AW19 collection.

3. Tokyo James

The corset trend is not going anywhere any time soon. Tiwa’s take on the trend is a fiery red Tokyo James dress styled with a corset and wide brim hat.

4. Deola Sagoe

For the second traditional look, she opted for Deola Sagoe’s forest motif komole design and custom velvet iro with draping details

5. Torlowei

In a nod to the northern Nigerian woman, this look featured a flowing silhouette using silk chiffon and silk. The three-piece outfit consists of a turban, bou-bou and veil, all made using raw silk, french lace and chiffon.

6. Banke Kuku

This section of the video obviously referenced former rap group TLC’s fashion. Here she wore three different outfits by Banke Kuku, all with the same baggy pyjama two/three-piece trend we’ve come to associate with TLC.
